Teddy Bear Drawing: Easy Step-by-Step Guide for Beginners

In this guide
Nothing says cozy quite like a teddy bear, and teddy bear drawing is one of the most heart-melting projects a beginner can pick up. 🧸 Everything about a teddy is round and soft — no sharp lines, no scary details, just circles and cuddles. If you can draw a few ovals, you can draw the sweetest bear on the shelf.
We’ll sketch a classic sitting teddy with stubby arms and a stitched nose. Want more animal friends after this? Our bear drawing guide shows how to draw a real bear too.
Fluff up your pencil and let’s make a snuggly new friend.
What You’ll Need
- Paper
- A pencil
- An eraser
- Optional: brown markers or colored pencils
Step 1: Draw the Head
Start with a big friendly circle near the top of your page. Teddy bears have oversized heads — that’s a huge part of their cuteness — so don’t be shy about making it round and roomy. If your circle comes out a little lopsided, no worries at all; a slightly wonky head just makes a teddy look more handmade and huggable.
Step 2: Add the Ears
Pop two small half-circles on top of the head, one on each side like little handles. Teddy ears sit high and stick out. Keep them simple and rounded — no points allowed on a bear this soft.
Step 3: Draw the Body
Below the head, draw a large rounded oval for the body, slightly wider than the head. Let it overlap the head a little so there’s barely any neck — teddies are all one squishy blob, and that’s exactly right. Think of a plump pillow that a child could squeeze; the rounder and softer it looks, the cuddlier your bear becomes.
Step 4: Add the Arms
Draw two short, stubby arms curving out from the top sides of the body, like little sausages reaching for a hug. Round off the ends into paws. Keep them chunky — thin arms would ruin the cuddly look we’re going for.
Step 5: Add the Legs
At the bottom of the body, draw two rounded legs sticking forward, as if teddy is sitting down facing you. Add a little oval on the sole of each foot for the paw pad. Now your bear has somewhere comfy to sit. ✨
Step 6: Draw the Snout and Nose
In the lower-middle of the face, draw a soft oval for the snout. On top of it, add a rounded triangle or upside-down heart for the nose, and a short line underneath leading to a little smile. This is the moment your teddy comes to life.
Step 7: Add the Eyes and Details
Give teddy two round eyes above the snout, each with a small white dot for shine. Add tiny stitch lines on the ears, a seam down the tummy, and a couple of dashes on the paws to hint at fabric. These little stitches say “handmade and well-loved.”
Step 8: Outline and Color
Trace a gentle, slightly fuzzy outline over your sketch and erase the guides. Color your bear a warm honey brown, with a lighter patch on the tummy, snout, ears, and paw pads. A little red bow at the neck makes any teddy extra darling. 🧸
Tips to Make Your Teddy Bear Drawing Even Cuter
- Add short, sketchy strokes around the outline to suggest soft, fuzzy fur.
- Rosy cheeks — two light pink circles — make your teddy look sweet and shy.
- Tie on a bow, scarf, or tiny heart patch to give your bear personality.
- Keep every line curved; even one straight edge makes a teddy look less cuddly.
- Try patches of a different color to make it look like a loved, mended toy.
